The event was co-promoted by IWA Mid-South and NWA Midwest, and was held at the National Guard Armory in Hammond, IN.
As Mercedes Martinez recently described it during her Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame speech, Volcano Girls proved to be the prototype for what we eventually did for 16 years with the SHIMMER Women Athletes project.
I will always be grateful that Ian and Ed were willing to give me creative freedom with producing the event. They knew how much the development of the IWA women’s division meant to me at the time. The show’s success helped inspire the launch of an entire women’s promotion in Chicago, and was part of a ripple effect which can, in many ways, still be felt throughout the industry 20 years later.
Many thanks to Lacey, Rain, Daizee, Danger, Lexie, MsChif, Mercedes, Mickie, Tracy, Sumie and Becky for your hard work. You delivered something special in the ring that day. You made history.
And thank you to the Chicagoland wrestling fans for being so supportive over the years!
